what will this day bring?

Morning, Coffee, the Usual

I do love the usual some days…coffee, walk/ruck, coffee/breakfast/reading. This is how the day begins!

A man with glasses and colorful tattoos is smiling while holding a blue mug and taking a selfie outside a red house.

Another Morning and More Coffee!

What else did you expect? That is how this works…. I drink coffee and think of things to put here… sometimes, occasionally, or when I remember or feel like it!

Yesterday was Labor Day and had nothing on the calendar. I went for a mountain bike ride in the morning on a trail I’d never been to before. Then, later in the afternoon we went out for another hike. This time to a trail I hadn’t been to yet on the other side of Spartanburg, The Cottonwood Trail. It was a beautiful trail. I love trails like this where you are still in the city but feel like you are much farther out in the woods!

Now it is back to work. Well, I am working from home right now so the commute is a pretty easy one!

Evening Hike

No picture of coffee this morning, but do not worry about me, for there is still coffee being consumed!!

I just wanted to share this from a hike I did last night with my kid. It was nice to get out in the woods together, just us, and walk a bit. They don’t get out much like this, but when we do they enjoy it. This is good for us because once we start going the conversation starts to flow more naturally than when we’re just sitting at home in our separate areas on our computers.

That is all, just a short note to share a happy moment!!

Coffee > Walk > Coffee > Read

More good morning routine magic.

Nothing exciting here. Just a standard boring, predictable, good way to start the day… I love it!

Another good thing about this kind of routine is that it is portable. Since I’m in hotels about half the month I can still do this while on the road. It is nice to have a little bit of continuity in that way I think. As much as I do love traveling for work, and seeing new places, and meeting new people, I also like to have something like this that is the same no matter where I am.

It is the same, but different. It is the same physical routine but in different places, which actually makes it a little more interesting.

But, since I’ll be in home base for a while, I’ll get out for my morning walks in the neighborhood. I already recognize two or three other people who are morning walkers as well. We give a poilte nod, smile, and say “Goodmorning!” to eachother and contiunue along our way.

Now, I’ll just sit back and enjoy more coffee.

Slow Morning…More Coffee!

I managed to sleep in until almost 7:00am today! Rather, I stayed in bed until about then. I think I actually slept better before I got an Oura ring where I can see the quality and duration of my sleep. It is still interesting data. I can see that I average about 7 hours of sleep most nights.

I very rarely need to use an alarm because my schedule is pretty much what I make of it. These days, my body tends to want to go to sleep at about 10-11:00 and wake up between 5:30-6:30 -ish. This is nothing etched in stone, it is just what I gravitate toward when by myself.

Well, it doesn’t matter what time I get up because there is always coffee! And most mornings, like today, there is also a short walk…usually with a loaded rucksack.

Coffee makes every morning better.!! ♾️☕️

Divinely Foolish

Morning routine time!

Coffee, walk, then more coffee and breakfast with daily reading.

Consistency is good, but only when it isn’t foolish consistency! Emerson had a point there. But, the more I think about it, it seems that the foolish part of that is a somewhat relative term.

What one person considers foolish, another considers divine.

As long as your foolishness isn’t destructive or hurtful of others then have at it!

Be foolish!

Be divinely foolish!

Embrace your beautiful individually divine foolishness!

Coffee > Walk

The mostly usual morning routine. I’m not hardcore about morning routines but I do like to be mildly consistent.

A strong routine is one that is variable depending on circumstances. I try to keep a similar one whether I am home or traveling for work. It is a good way to start the day and gets my mind and body in a good place to take on whatever the day will throw at me!

Cool Morning Coffee

Coffee and Cooler Temps

It is a beautiful morning sitting outside at 66 degrees! I absolutely love how it feels. Its not stultifying hot and humid, which is normal for this time of year in South Carolina. It will get that way again for sure, but today, it is perfect!

This is the first full day of me being home for 3+ weeks before my next trip for work. I’ll still be working, just from home.

It will be time with just me and my kid to hang out and do things together. Definitely a nice change of pace from constanly being on the road! 😄

The Usual Morning Stuff

There is somethiing nice about a consistent routine…I mean mostly… or some of the time.

I do seem to have a better day if I start off with a morning walk/ruck and then coffee and daily reading. It all kind of gets me in the right spacve physically and mentally first thing in the morning. No matter what happens the rest of the day I’ve already done a little something that is good for both my mind and body.

After being a die hard night owl in my earlier years I am now a morning person. You know I am definitely a morning person when I get up early even when I don’t have to!!

Especially If I Don’t Feel Like It!

Back in Atlanta for work. Well, I’m staying in Norcross and working this part of the Atlanta region this trip. It is a very short stay of only 6 days and this is day 3.

The Covid is completely gone now and has been since Tuesday at least. I am finallyh feeling back to my regular self…Full-On Sean!!
This morning I was able to get out for a morning ruck/walk for at least a mile. I didn’t really feel like it today so I did it any way and I am so glad that I did. Once I got out there, walking and audiobook playing, I instantly felt better!

Reinforced lesson of the day for myself: Do want needs to be done, even when you don’t feel like it. Especially if you don’t feel like it!!

Ick Be Gone.....and Coffee!!

Another morning and I am feeling like my usual self! I took a COVID test first thing and it is completely negative….not even the faint hit of a line like yesterday still had.

Now i can get back to the business of being Sean. Maybe a mountain bike ride. I haven’t been out on a trail ride in almost 3 weeks! It is definitely time to get back in the saddle and legs pumping.

I am only home for two more days before my next work trip, which will only be 6 days this time. Then I’ll be home for 3+ weeks.

Today though, it is time to enjoy not feeling sick!!

Lesser Ick

The ick feels completely gone but the antigen test still says otherwise. It was slow to appear and faint but the Covid line still appeared.

I will continue to isolate to protect those near me but at least I am well enough to ride the stationary bike! Still not sure if I’ll be able to get out on the trails before leaving on Thursday for my next trip… if I am covid free and not contagious! 😷 🤞

Today is just another day of reading, watching random youtube, playing guitar, and general lazing about. I tend to excell at these activities!!

Sitting with Ick

Still have the COVID Ick. Not a fan. Now it is just annoying because I feel fine but I’m still contagious and need to isolate. Well, this does give me many hours to plot and plan for upcoming adventures! And there will be adventures! Not entirely sure what kind of adventures, or where, or solo or with others, or when…..but there will be adventures!! Until then, I’ll just dream while sitting in my COVID cocoon.

Fence Friend and Coffee

Still battling COVID, sort of. I feel so much better with no fever or aches/pains, and very little congestion, but I still have the ick and still contagious.

So, it is continued isolation for me to protect the other people in this home. Staying in the house isn’t that much of an issue for me, but staying in only my room does get a little claustrophobic after a while. It’s not too bad over all though. I’ve got lots of things to read, two guitars to try and play with, an exercise bike, and of course the internet containing all of the beautiful madness of humanity!

At least I can go outside in the postage stamp back yard and find little friends on the fence!

Lesser Ick

I managed to make it home from Atlanta yesterday and now I am in self-quarantine/monk mode. Today is day four of COVID and I am feeling substantially better!

According to chatGPT (corroborated with other sources), I am through the Acute Illness, Peak/transition, and moving into the Improving phase. That is definitely how I feel!

Still, it is going to be time spent mostly in my bedroom so as not to infect others in the house, one of whom is supposed to travel internationally in two weeks!

I will probably get to read a lot and do a little work. I’ll be training on another project to work while I am home for three weeks coming up and I will also do some calls in preparation for my next trip after I get better.

So, it will still be relaxing….I think!

Full Blown Ick

At the suggestion of a friend I went to the 24 hr. pharmacy and grabbed a COVID/Flu antigen test.

Luckily, I don’t have the flu. But I do have COVID! I’m actually surprised I don’t get sick more often with how many different people I come into contact with for work. So, now I am cutting the work trip short by a few days and heading home.

This seems to be about day two or three and I’m feeling super tired and worn down. Beyond that I’m OK for now. Hopefully, it will have mostly run it’s course by middle of next week as I’m supposed to be back on the road. I can’t afford to be sick for too long!!

Mid-trip Ick

No walk this morning as I was just still feeling more blah than meh. I had an early interview scheduled on the other side of Atlanta in Decatur.

So, I had my coffee and breakfast, and got going. Ugh, the not feeling good yesterday wasn’t just from lack of sleep the night before. Today, I’ve got the occasional chills, stuffy nose, froggy voice, etc. But no real fever. I did go out and get a thermometer and check. It fluctuates up to 100 occasionally but is usually still hovering around 98.6.

After the morning interview I went to Publix and got supplies for hibernating the rest of the day to try and kick this so I can finish the last couple of days of this trip.
